In Nigeria, 30% of women and girls aged 25-49 have experienced a form of sexual abuse.
As a result of the rapid evolution of the COVID-19 Pandemic, there has been an overwhelming increase in number of cases of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV). In addition, efforts made in addressing Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) have been compromised.
Inadequate coordination of key stake holders, poor implementation of legal framework, combined with gender discrimination norms have hampered the efforts of Government and civil society to address Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV). These, in combination with other factors, such as high poverty rates, and limited access to basic services such as mental health/psychological centers, means over 80% of victims are left with no choice but to endure life threatening assault and the consequences which include depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
AIBETH CENTRE is an organization established to address mental health challenges in Nigeria using Psychological Intervention Programs. At present, the center provides therapeutic trauma healing one-on-one sessions, group therapy and resilience building through psychosocial support to victims and survivors of SGBV in Nigeria.
Unfortunately, due to limited funding, the centre is faced with challenges in helping majority of victims and survivors who are in dire need of psychological support.
Please help victims of SGBV by helping AIBETH CENTRE, and her advocacy partners in providing professional and quality psychological intervention and addressing the psychological trauma associated with SGBV and its impact on Mental Health.
